vintage 1940's leopard fur trim jacket

The vintage jacket. You really can't get through spring or fall, or winter, even summer, fashionably without having a few of these in your closet. They are sexy, stylish, and feminine. Now, more than ever before, vintage jackets are popular, sought after, and are one of the most popular clothing items around.

Today, if you can't find an authentic vintage jacket, you don't have to give up the vintage look that you desire. Vintage style jackets can be found in just about every shop you browse. The elegance, simplicity, flamboyance, and femininity of vintage styles throughout the decades that have proven their worth, have been making a return performance, some with very few modifications, namely in the fabrics used and in size availability.

The jacket isn't only called a jacket, the jacket can and should also be referred to as (to name a few historical synonyms) a duster, frock coat, blazer, bomber, overcoat, British warm, blouson, topper, waistcoat, and cardigan, especially if you are wanting a broad selection of choices. Actually I was quite surprised at first to find that the jacket could be referred to by so many terms. But then it completely made sense.

You see, one of the reasons that jackets are so useful, sought after, fashionable, and are worn year round is because of their extreme styles , lengths, and fabrics that the jacket has come in since their birth, giving the jacket limitless possibilities.  Jackets hide, they accentuate, they are forgiving, they embellish, they are an embellishment, they swag, they comfort, they're cozy, they are a fashion necessity. And thus the various names a jacket can go by.

From simple and classic to runway crazy, the right jacket will ensure a look that is ooh la-la gorgeous.

Cool hub. I love vintage clothing. The jackets are really cute. Thanks Frieda Bubbly :=)

Hello, hello, 2 years ago

Wow, they look great. Thank you.

TamCor 2 years ago

I love vintage jackets-especially ones from the 40's. But I really like the long red leather one you're showing in the hub!

I have a gray wool cape with a detached hood from probably the 70's, but I haven't had the guts to wear it yet, lol.

I sold a 40's Lilli Ann jacket a few months ago on Ebay--I had held onto it for several years, just because it was soooo pretty, haha!

Thanks for a fun to read hub!

Hi alekhouse. Thanks, aren't they though?

Hello, Hello, hello, lol (that was fun). Thanks.

TamCor, did you really? I've never worn a Lilli Ann jacket, but my son's friend's mother had one. It was just gorgeous. And so feminine and soft. I do love the 40's jackets. I love 40's everything really. I think I'm a reincarnated 40's gal. I think you'd look awesome in a cape like that. Don't be shy, wear it proudly. Thanks so much for the read. Glad you enjoyed yourself. I had a great time looking up stuff for these vintage jackets.

Hi robie2. Great to see you here. Thanks much. I realized I would have had a much easier time of finding delicious jackets if I had gone by more specific names for them. Glad you enjoyed.

Great Article...got some good ideas!

Frieda Babbley 2 years ago

Hey there Bloggeressa. Thanks. Those vids were pretty cool for jacket looks weren't they?

BC, hello hello. Hope your day is going beautifully (or night). No, I don't suppose it would be, so thank you much. =D

TamCor 2 years ago

Oh, I'm with you on loving the 40's--it's my favorite time period, for clothing, furniture, kitchen goodies... anything! It's got such class, and "homeyness"(is that a word, lol), doesn't it?

The Lilli Ann I had was black with white lace trim--I loved it, but it wasn't my size. I ended up selling it to someone very tiny person in Japan, lol...boy, did I hate to see it go!

Frieda Babbley 2 years ago

I know exactly what you mean. I really get obsessed with that era. And it's not just the Hollywood glamour, it's the individual items. I know just what you mean.

That's the thing about some vintage things, seems the tiny stuff is all over the place. It used to be okay, but since its popularity vintage clothes are a see and grab commodity. I would have held onto it too. Sometimes it's okay to hold onto something just because it makes you happy to look at.

Lovely, lovely jackets!!! I had a vintage jacket from one of my mother's suits that I wore in high school. It was grey wool with wide lapels. You brought back some great memories! Danke, Ms. Babbly Bubbly!! Keep this stuff coming!

Very cool jackets, especially the white one with a belt!! I really love wearing vintage jackets because they truly define the feminine details in a perfect way. I also do have a hub on women's jackets. I have joined your fan club and would like to invite you to join mine and stay in touch!

Winsome 2 years ago

OK now it's time to make a hub on vintage men's leather jackets. I still have my vintage (reproduction of course) bomber jacket. It's totally worn but I just can't bring myself to let go. I look at it occasionally and smell the memories. Maybe I'll make an ottoman out of it. =:)

Irene 2 years ago

Your hub is absolutely awesome. So much good information and nice pictures. The videos are also great.

Vintage clothing is way too cool. This took me down memory lane with some of the jackets my mother wore in the late 60's and 70's. This was a pleasure to read and see. Thank you.

Hi Dink96, couponalum, winsome, Irene, and lisapreston. Great to see you guys enjoyed this hub.

Dink96 it sound gorgeous, sigh.

couponalbum, you're so right. Thanks so very much. I've read some of your hubs and love love love, so I'm a new fan of yours. Thanks for letting me know. Great topics.

Winsome, I'll let you write the hub? Or we can both write one and link. I have to tell you, I wouldn't let go of that bomber jacket. Hold onto it! Even if it does mean you need to make an ottoman out of it (teehee).

Irene, thanks for the link.

Lisa, I remember my mom's 60's and 70's jackets too. Just to look at them makes me feel quite at home and brings a smile to my face too. You're so welcome. Thanks so much for popping in.

Great Hub! I love vintage clothes, and vintage jackets are no exception. It is so fun to think about the history behind each piece when you are wearing it.

Winsome 2 years ago

Hey FB, I just saw your comment. That's a great idea. Maybe with humor like my Ten Way Cool Hubs? BTW I'd appreciate your take on my last two (Gallery & Lost) when you get a minute. Best. =:)

Frieda Babbley 2 years ago

Thanks belliott!

PearTreeGreetings, thanks much. It is so fun to think about the history behind each piece when you're wearing it. One of the major reasons I'm such a fan of vintage clothing. Just put in a new video I ran across that is sure to please.

Hey the Winsome. I think that would be a fabulous idea. Write it write it! I'll mull over some ideas for one myself. Read and loved! Actually, I'd gone over there to read and never did make it to commenting here, lol. Gallery is my favourite, like a vignette. Actually, think I'll pop back over and read some more.

Love the 1950's and 1970's jackets. They have so much class and style!

lxxy 2 years ago

Gotta love classic style! Such a lovely presentation Frieda, you deserve a gold star.

Frieda! I thought that you had semi-retired from the old HP! When I was young, I was crazy for vintage jackets. We used to pick them up at thrift stores, jackets from the 1940's, beautiful jackets and so unique too. My favorite had a designer's label that included my name. The jackets went well with the saddle oxfords and mismatched socks (one red, one yellow). And the saddle oxfords were great for the old clip on roller skates. This was in the late 1960's.

Frieda Babbley 23 months ago

Ivorwen, I know. Just gorgeous.

Ixxy thanks. I just gave myself a hundred pack. They're nice and shiny. I'll be covering myself with them later on today.

Hey there Dolores. Oh I have semi-retired, but not for long. I never do well with retirement. Oh how cool is that. The mismatched socks, lol "those were the days" . I really really love the styles of the 40's I think more than any other overall, for jackets and everything else. Thrift stores are the best, aren't they. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.=)

I love these jackets. For many years I wore jackets much of the time. Dressed up or casual. Somewhere along the line, it ended. Must have been that work at home thing that got me into a very relaxed, casual mode. This hub may inspire me to make more of an effort.

Frieda Babbley 20 months ago

Thanks KoffeeKlatch Gals. No they don't and it's such a shame. Go-o-o vintage!

Beaut Vintage, welcome. Thanks much! Yes, I have to say it did take a while, but so so so fun!

Hi mulberry1. Great to see you here. Oh you must make an effort. It'll make you feel fab!

Thanks for the nice post. I love vintage jackets.

Vintage Jackets 17 months ago

I did not realise that there are so many different names or synonyms for a jacket. Thank you for that information.

I'm really digging your vintage jackets. Awesome and well done, Thanks :) Katie

Frieda Babbley 17 months ago

Motorcycle Leather Jackets, me too!

Vintage Jackets, I didn't either until I was researching for this hub. Pretty cool, huh?

katiem2, thanks much! =)

mysisters 15 months ago

Great Hub. Many say that Vintage is coming back as a trend, but I believe that Vintage has always been popular. I really like the Vintage pieces that are shown here.

Frieda Babbley 15 months ago

Hey there, mysisters, thanks. I think your observation about vintage having always been popular is probably right on the mark. I think even when what we consider to be vintage wasn't vintage, the same was true. Thanks for that thought.
