Vintage Hollywood Starlets Dress Up - Ways to Decorate For Halloween With Photos of Sexy Witches in Costumes

By Frieda Babbley

I am a lover of vintage, black and white photography, and Halloween. Put these loves together and you've just concocted something that works better than any love potions one could possibly think of putting together. An exaggeration, perhaps, but a myriad of feelings do pursue me during this time of year when the three align just so.

While witches and sorcery are far from explicitly correlated to Halloween, it is acceptable during this holiday to be mused and amused by them, and I, for one, certainly am.

Vintage posters were more than happy to advertise true sexual prowess. Halloween was no exception when it came to enticing costumes that turned heads and added just the right amount of fun. While witch costumes are more streamlined and stereotypical today, they didn't used to

Veronica Lake - star of the 1942 film "I Married a Witch" - "A 300-year-old witch wreaks havoc when she falls in love with a young politician."

be, not when it came to vintage Halloween glamour photos. Witch hats often sported pons and plumes. Glitter, tight shorts, halter tops, cocktail skirts and ribbons, were somehow incorporated in the less is more witch look. Starlets clad barely-there outfits that flowed or glittered or both, and they bore their sexiest smiles or damsel in distress looks for the cameras.

Some of these black and white photos and vintage posters can be found on the web, as well as at auctions (both on and off line), yard and estate sales, photo and frame shops, vintage and antique stores, and other like places. They are not readily available, however, so a lover of this sort of vintage does need to scrummage about and keep their eyes peeled.

Framed Halloween Decor

Vintage starlets are witchy and bewitching both on and off screen, whether dawning a witch's costume, playing a witch, or none of the above. Around Halloween, they inspire me. They also inspire my Halloween decor.

Yes, they inspire my decor. In fact these beautiful and sexy ladies become a part of it, turning my living and dining rooms into a fabulous and bewitching spectacle.

Whether found or printed out, black and white photos and posters of Halloween garbed stars of the past enchant my walls and mantles, placed in amongst cobwebs and fog, pumpkins, spiders, and bowls of Halloween treats.

Behind glass or simply cardboard framed, they are stunning and add a happiness to Halloween that is sure to please yourself as well as your company.

I was just as surprised! PS I am now remembering the agony of waiting for a hub-score to go up. I should have sat on it longer, but as usual I was impatient.

I love this nostalgic Hollywood Halloween. What a great idea. I don't have a clue who Dusty Anderson and Nancy Carroll were, but I think their pictures are fabulous. This is such a great and original Halloween hub.

Those black and white pics remind me of a whole different world when all the starlets were impossibly glamorous. Great pics, and a great idea for a hub!

Bewitched again by the fabulous Frieda, so good to see you and these black and whites. My favorite is Veronica Lake and I love the black moon in Dusty Anderson's photo. You might enjoy this account of Sarah Jessica Parker tracing her roots to Salem. Welcome back M! =:)

Okay, I work entirely too many hours now and I have missed so many awesome comments here. Enjoyed Halloween with a lovely bout of Pertussis, (not over it, but at least I'm not contagious any more thank to antibiotics, lol. Spooky? Yes. But surrounded by lovely witches, it's easy to have much fun even when you're sick. I hope all of you enjoyed your Halloween festivities.

Raven King, I've been trying to figure out a way to make one into a life-sized cardboard cut-out. That would be soooooo totally awesome. Sure, a bit demented, but wicked cool none the less.

Special greetings to Dolores, Princessa, Cindy, Robie2, Alekhouse, Amanda, Hello hello, and Dallas.

Winsome, you totally rock! Thanks much for the link. =D
