Backyard Soul-O Poem of Soulmates in Love

Poem Subject Analysis

People tend to think of being in love as pertaining to, for the most part, a sexual attraction. But sexual attraction is only a part of this phenomenon. If this love involves soul mates, many believe that this love ultimately and inevitably involves the universe; in fact a multi-universe, and aspects of reality that over reach what others could have even thought to consider. The invisible songs and melodies created between soul mates can line the chakras and heal the spirit. Their music can show itself in subtle (and not so subtle) ways; it is a part of what others notice as "they were so meant to be together".

When a couple is in love there is a dance that is done physiologically, chemically, spiritually. It is ethereal, and a bit like being in Alice in Wonderland's rabbit hole; a very positive experience when one is open to it, as is usually the case with this certain type of love, especially when involving soul mates. Our senses take on a life of their own, intermingle, crevice, expand, take on new duties, try out new functions.

There are different songs and melodies that are played physically, emotionally, spiritually, tangibly and intangibly. Much like an "our song" the styles can vary dramatically, stem from any style, moment, or reason, and are personal, affecting and effecting each couple in a different way. It will affect and effect the individual and ultimately the whole (as a couple on the one hand, and as a part of the universes as another). The right song or melody can produce the perfect movement between a couple, combining them in a way that nothing else can. It becomes an improvisation that both manipulates and can be manipulated by the two. In it's purest form it is simple energy.

In Backyard Soul-o, this energy is transformed by the alto sax. Its energy embellishes, moves and shifts through each moment, singularly and as a whole, back and forth.

Poem Structure Analysis

This poem below takes the love melody between one particular set of soul mates and sets it to words, utilizing free verse and improvisational jazz to suit the undefined and unexpected aspects of their dance and melody, using William Zuback's fine art black and white photo titled Backyard-Soul-O as inspiration. The title (of both photograph and poem), in and of itself, offers the perfect setting for the subject matter chosen. All that is needed is embellishment and a form that offers flow and suspension of time, together.

The prominent melody of the alto sax is not only the eye that sees, but it has magically altered the senses. It understands the world that has been created by the characters and in turn creates a sublimation of them.

Unlike the poem Aspect of Error, punctuation in Backyard Soul-o is formed with traditional sentence structure in mind. This allows for three defining meanings to form. These meanings, come from a) each line as a singular, b ) as a culmination upon the previous, as well as c) what each sentence unites; so there are three harmonies, just as there are three entities that make up soul mates.

Backyard Soul-o

Alto sax scents flow

through, above, surround

us; permeating sweet sounds

of love swinging, flowing on

sweet grass, softly moaning in my arms,

calling on the night in soft rhapsodies

swaying in your hips.

Nothing can love

like this day's touch

moving me to take you closer.

Love letters know

this song,

these pleasures of the mind;

lucid, statuesque,

molting, shaping,

shifting as we press;

leading, following

the alto sax scents,

flowing,

us permeating

sweet sounds of love.

Physiologically, chemically, spiritually satisfying. When I go I want them to play the saxophone solo from Baker Street. Lovely on multi-dimensional levels Frieda. Mmmmm. =:)

This gentle flow was soul food to my soul. I felt the rhythm and the lonely sax blend in perfect harmony to both soul mates in tune with the Universe. Nicely done, bravo.

Winsome, saddlerider1, QudsiaP1, it looks as though my comments and approves did not stick. Here to rectify that.

Winsome, as always thank you so much for seeing the spirit of this hub. Yes, that's a lovely melody to play at one's passing tribute. Had to go listen to that one a few times over. Quite a few versions of it out there.

Saddlerider1, hello and thanks so much for taking your tie out to comment. I'm glad this spoke to you. Thanks so much for the bravo.

QudsiaP1, so great to see you here. Thanks so much. I still find this poem so relaxing to read, glad you do too.
